Assessment
Assessment of Student Learning at WATC

The mission of Wichita Area Technical College (WATC) is to provide relevant, technical education and training that meets the needs of learners, the community and industry while instilling a positive work ethic and desire for lifelong learning.

A means by which WATC demonstrates that it fulfills its mission lies in its ability to establish, measure and analyze student learning outcomes. WATC assessment encompasses student learning in technical education, general education and academic success. By creating a faculty-driven process for assessing student learning, WATC provides evidence for constant monitoring and improvement of academic offerings. Program faculty create assessment matrices that provide the framework for this process. Assessment reports, which include current assessment levels and practices for each program, are provided to administration and faculty and are coordinated by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and overseen by the Educational Affairs Committee.

Online Learning Partners with MEDS Publishing
Evening Practical Nurse students are now taking part in a great homework assistance software trial. WATC Online Learning has partnered with MEDS Publishing to provide its Total Nursing Curriculum Support software to these students the first week of February. The modules, which are provided with the software, give a variety of assistance to learners and are designed to follow students from their first course in a nursing program until they pass their Kansas State Board of Nursing exams.
Online Learning is able to pilot this software package with the evening Practical Nurse students through grant money. If the pilot proves successful, the program will be expanded to include all Practical Nurse students. We hope this software will help students achieve their educational goals and open the doors to success.

Questions concerning this partnership should be directed to Paul Jackson, director, Online Learning.
