Customized Training Solutions: Six Sigma Training
Six Sigma Program Overview

Six Sigma introduces individual process owners and operators to the skills necessary to identify, monitor, and control profit-eating practices in their own processes and for larger system projects.

The program also addresses the challenges of change and data management. Students develop an in-depth understanding of how computers and statistical software are essential components in the business world and society in general for:

  • exploring data in depth,
  • data simulation,
  • screening data for errors,
  • manipulating data,
  • performing transformations,
  • focus on the use of the computer,
  • and statistical software as a valuable productivity and data analysis tool.

The training instructs the student on how to assist their business in making intelligent decisions about where and how to incorporate improvements.

Six Sigma Courses

The courses progress in order of the martial arts – Yellow, then Green, then Black. All courses are taught by what are called Master Black Belts – they are statistical guru’s. The object of the game is to fix processes – find the most efficient manner for those processes and have proof or statistical data to back up your decision.

All of the six sigma classes are hands on in a computer lab – so not the typical lecture – listen series. This enhances any business degree and is a terrific resume builder. The students do not have to take the yellow belt but they do have to take the Green Belt before the Black Belt. They also do not have to take both of the Green Belt modules at the same time. For instance, they can take the Methods this summer, and the Stats portion this fall – (as an example).

Once they have completed both modules, they will get a certificate from WATC that shows they are a Six Sigma Green Belt – another certificate when they finish the Black Belt.

We offer the courses below.

Course Descriptions

Six Sigma Yellow Belt - 1 credit hour
Six Sigma Yellow Belt training introduces the fundamentals of Six Sigma to individual process owners and operators who can then act as team members on Six Sigma projects. Not only do these Yellow Belts gain the skills necessary to identify, monitor and control profit-eating practices in their own processes, but they are also prepared to feed that information to Green Belts and Black Belts working on larger system projects.

Six Sigma Green Belt Methods – 3 credit hours
This course is designed to help the adult learner understand Six Sigma concepts and be able to apply their knowledge to a real problem. It also addresses the challenges of change management and data management. The course is held in the computer lab and is hands on. They will start a project of their choice. If the student does not have a project, the instructor will help them pick one. This course applies to all areas such as manufacturing, health industry, construction, finance such as banking and finance.

Six Sigma Green Belt Statistics – 3 credit hours
Students develop an in-depth understanding of how computers and statistical software are essential components in the business world and society in general for exploring data in depth, data simulation, screening data for errors, manipulating data, performing transformations, focus on the use of the computer and statistical software as a valuable productivity and data analysis tool.
Prerequisite: Six Sigma Green Belt Methods (course number when assigned) or consent. The students will finish the project that they started in the Six Sigma Green Belt Methods. They will use the software Minitab and Excel to learn the statistical tools and how to implement their project on the computer with these tools.

Six Sigma Black Belt – 6 credit hours
The Six Sigma Black Belt training incorporates data and statistical analysis into a project based workflow that allows businesses to make intelligent decisions about where and how to incorporate improvements.
Prerequisite: Six Sigma Green Belt Statistics (course number when assigned) or consent

The Future WATC

Plans are being laid now for the programs and infrastructure needed for the new campus. The new campus will feel more like a business center than an educational institution. Workers for the county's five aircraft manufacturers and hundreds of businesses that support them will receive training at this new campus. A few of the programs selected for the new campus are various kinds of aviation training, manufacturing, welding and robotics.

This facility will allow for the hands-on training students and employers expect.

WATC is the managing partner of Sedgwick County’s National Center for Aviation Training at Jabara Airport: a world-class facility dedicated to educating students to work in high-paying aviation and manufacturing jobs. The first phase of construction will be complete this summer and the second phase should be finished and ready for students by fall 2010.
